Designing OTT Without Limits: How AgileTV Built a Flexible, Future-Ready Platform for Mediaset España

Every OTT platform is designed to solve today’s challenges. The real test is whether it can adapt to tomorrow’s. When Mediaset España set out to modernize its streaming ecosystem, the objective extended far beyond a technology upgrade. The company needed a scalable, flexible platform capable of evolving alongside a rapidly changing media landscape. For AgileTV, that meant designing an architecture built not just for launch, but for continuous innovation.

Moving beyond point solutions

As OTT consumption accelerated, Mediaset España needed a platform capable of supporting millions of viewers across live and on-demand services while maintaining the performance and reliability expected from a major broadcaster.

The objective extended beyond technology modernization. The company needed an end-to-end video platform covering the entire media workflow, from ingest and encoding to packaging, DRM protection and content delivery.

Achieving this required the integration of multiple best-of-breed technologies, while avoiding the operational complexity and vendor lock-in that often accompany large-scale media ecosystems.

Designing for change, not just for launch

Building an OTT platform is one challenge. Building one that can continuously evolve is another.

From the outset, Mediaset España wanted a technology foundation capable of adapting to future requirements without disruptive migrations or costly re-architecture projects. New vendors, new workflows and new distribution models needed to be introduced without impacting ongoing operations.

This demanded an architectural approach that prioritized flexibility as much as performance.

A vendor-agnostic approach to OTT

To meet these requirements, AgileTV designed a modular, vendor-agnostic architecture that connected best-of-breed solutions across every stage of the media workflow.

Rather than relying on a single technology stack, the platform was built around clear integration layers covering ingest, encoding, packaging, DRM and content delivery. Open standards and abstraction layers ensured interoperability while preserving the freedom to evolve individual components over time.

The engagement began with consulting and project management services before expanding into integration, engineering, backend development and ongoing operational support. Over the years, this approach enabled the rollout of major milestones, including a new VOD architecture, infrastructure upgrades and the launch of the Infinity App.

Throughout each phase, new capabilities were introduced without disrupting existing services.

From platform delivery to continuous evolution

Today, Mediaset España operates a robust OTT ecosystem serving millions of users across live and on-demand experiences.

The platform delivers secure streaming through end-to-end DRM protection and resilient multi-CDN distribution, ensuring performance and reliability at scale. More importantly, it has provided a foundation for continuous improvement rather than periodic reinvention.

By maintaining a vendor-agnostic architecture, Mediaset España has been able to adopt new technologies as the market evolves, optimizing both performance and cost efficiency without introducing unnecessary risk.

The project has grown beyond an implementation exercise into a long-term partnership focused on ongoing optimization and innovation.
